"Ahsoka's Creed"

Magnetic script on Holopaper, ca. 30 ABY

This document contains two scripts from unknown hands. The first, older layer of writing, in High Galactic, records the Jedi code, as traditionally rendered. As handwriting exercises were a common element in early Padawan education, both for the purposes of mnemonics and for those of conservation, this script may well be written from a Padawan's hand. If so, it would have been preserved in the Jedi Archives on Coruscant, before being removed.

The second, younger layer of writing, in Aurebesh, appears to consist of a commentary on the first text. The hand in which this commentary is recorded is likewise unknown, although its careful nature and occasionally inconsistent spelling, as well as the absence of diacritics, indicate that it, too, does not record original thoughts as they occurred to its author. Rather, the background appears to be a ritual or educational setting.

Ahsoka's creed

There is no emotion, there is peace.
But how can there be peace if emotions are absent? What is the distinction between peace and indifference if not a passion for peace?

There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
What is knowledge if not knowledge of using strength to channel passion?

There is no passion, there is serenity.
Does serenity not entail power over circumstances? Is it not attained, just like piece, in distinction to or power over what is outside of me?

There is no chaos, there is harmony.
Yet what is harmony without chaos? Does it not consist in taming chaos? In using it, through my heart, through my strength, against my chains?

There is no death, there is the Force.
Is the Force not victory over death?
Am I not freed through this victory?
To retain and expand my strength as I become one with the Force?

To what extent the comments recorded here stem from former Jedi Ahsoka Tano, or are otherwise related to her, is unknown. The juxtaposition of the Jedi code with elements clearly derived from its Sith equivalent, however, seems to indicate that these comments stem from an effort of an unknown Grey Jedi to come to terms with their position within the Force. Did Ahsoka inspire this unknown Grey Jedi? What relations might exist between them and other force-wielders active in the galaxy at this point?
